Itinerary

Day 0: Arrival in Arusha

Your adventure begins with a warm welcome upon arrival at the Kilimanjaro Airport, where you’ll be met by our Let’s Discover Africa’s representative and transferred to the Gran Melia Hotel in Arusha City, just 50 km from the airport. Gran Melia is a five star hotel with an exclusive view of Mount Meru, the second highest peak after Kilimanajro. Relax and unwind in style when you settle into your lavish lodge, nestled in the foothills of Mount Meru.

Day 1: Lemosho Gate (2385m/7825 ft) to Big Tree Camp (2780m/9121 ft):

Your journey begins with a pick-up from your hotel at 8:00 am, where you’ll be greeted by our team and take an adventure to the western side of Kilimanjaro. Upon arrival at the Lemosho Gate approx 130 km from Arusha town, our team will assist you through the registration process before commencing the climb. After the registration is completed, trekkers enter the lush forest, setting off on the trail toward Big Tree Camp, the first overnight stop.

Day 2: Big Tree Camp (2780m/9121 ft) to Shira 1 Camp (3500m/11483 ft):

After breakfast, we continue our ascent through the captivating landscapes of Kilimanjaro. The trail gradually leads us out of the lush rainforest and into the expansive heath zone, where the vegetation becomes more sparse, and the air grows crisper with each step. Trekking deeper into the wilderness, climbers transition from the rainforest to the heath zone.The day ends up at Shira 1 Camp, offering panoramic views and a sense of accomplishment.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp (3500m/11483 ft) to Shira 2 Camp (3900m/12795 ft):

Leaving behind the scenic vistas of Shira 1 Camp, we continue our ascent through the diverse ecosystems of Kilimanjaro. As we traverse the expansive Shira Plateau, we are treated to breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro’s majestic peaks and the surrounding wilderness stretching out as far as the eye can see. The ever-changing scenery serves as a constant reminder of the awe-inspiring beauty of the mountain. Today, the journey ends at Shira 2 Camp, where trekkers rest and acclimatize for the challenges ahead. Our team ensures that our spacious 2-person tents are set up, providing a comfortable and welcoming sanctuary amidst the wilderness.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp (3900m/12795 ft) to Barranco Camp (3972m/13031 ft) via Lava Tower:

After breakfast, Leaving behind the rugged beauty of Shira 2 Camp, we continue our ascent through the varied terrain of Kilimanjaro. As we walk through the beautiful landscape, we are treated to sweeping vistas of the surrounding peaks and valleys, the scenery is always changing and inspiring. Ascending to Lava Tower (4640m) for vital acclimatization, climbers then descend to Barranco Camp. The day’s trek offers breathtaking views of the Barranco Wall and the surrounding landscape. Our team ensures that our spacious 2-person tents are set up, providing a comfortable and inviting space to rest and recharge after a day of adventure.

Day 5: Barranco Camp (3972m/13031 ft) to Karanga Camp 3963m/13002 ft:

After breakfast, Leaving behind the picturesque setting of Barranco Camp, nestled amidst the lush valley, we begin our ascent towards Karanga Camp. The trail initially leads us to conquer the iconic Barranco Wall, a challenging yet exhilarating climb that rewards us with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. Overcoming the Barranco Wall, trekkers descend into the Karanga Valley before reaching Karanga Camp. A key acclimatization point, Karanga Camp provides a restful stop before the final ascent. Our team ensures that our spacious 2-person tents are set up, providing a comfortable and welcoming sanctuary amidst the wilderness.

Day 6: Karanga Camp (3963m/13002 ft) to Barafu Camp (4640m/15223 ft):

Leaving behind the tranquil surroundings of Karanga Camp, we continue our ascent towards the summit of Kilimanjaro. The trail leads us through rocky terrain and alpine desert landscapes, with the towering peaks of Kilimanjaro looming overhead. Climbers ascend to Barafu Camp, the last base camp before the summit bid. As we reach Barafu Camp, our team ensures that our spacious 2-person tents are set up, providing a comfortable and welcoming sanctuary amidst the wilderness. Preparations are made for the challenging summit day, with trekkers resting and refueling for the midnight ascent.

Day 7: Summit Day: Barafu Camp (4640 m/15223 ft) to Uhuru Peak (5895 m/19340 ft) and down to Mweka Camp (3080 m/10105 ft):

Day 7 marks the pinnacle of our Kilimanjaro climbing expedition as we embark on the ultimate challenge: Summit Day. Our walk begins in the early morning, under the cover of darkness, from Barafu to the summit of Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Kilimanjaro and the roof of Africa.The early morning summit bid begins, with climbers embarking on the challenging ascent to Uhuru Peak. Upon reaching the summit, trekkers celebrate their accomplishment before descending to Mweka Camp for the night.

  • Distance Covered: 5km/3 miles ascent, 12 km/7.5 miles
  • Hiking Time: 7-8 hours ascent, 4-6 hours descent
  • Vegetation Type: Arctic to forest.

Day 8: Mweka Camp (3080m/10105 ft) to Mweka Gate (1630 m/5348 ft)

As the final day of our Kilimanjaro climbing expedition, we bid farewell to the majestic mountain and began our descent from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate, where our adventure came to an end. Descending through the rainforest, we reach Mweka Gate, marking the end of the expedition. At the Mweka gate, farewells are exchanged with guides and team members before departing for Arusha. After all the paperwork was done, we were awarded our Kilimanjaro certificate. We depart from Mweka Gate and transfer to our hotel in Arusha, carrying with us a sense of accomplishment and pride, knowing that we have conquered one of the world’s highest peaks and forged bonds that will last a lifetime.
