Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport

Discover the Best of Tanzania itinerary begins with a warm welcome upon arrival at Kilimanjaro Airport, where you’ll be met by your professional safari guide and transferred to the Gran Melia Hotel in Arusha City, just 50 km from the airport. Gran Melia is a five star hotel with an exclusive view of Mount Meru, the second highest peak after Kilimanajro. Relax and unwind in style when you settle into your lavish lodge, nestled in the foothills of Mount Meru.

Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) to Arusha town is about 50–55 km, taking approximately 1–1.5 hours by road, depending on traffic.

Day 2: Cultural Immersion: Masai Village Visit

After breakfast, depart with your packed picnic lunch and drive 34 km to Engikaret Maasai Village. Enjoy an authentic cultural experience as you visit a traditional Maasai community, learn about their customs and daily life, and take part in activities such as traditional animal slaughtering, house-building demonstrations, spear throwing, and vibrant Maasai dances.

Day 3: Coffee tour

After enjoying a delectable breakfast at your hotel, proceed for a 15-kilometer drive to Tengeru that will enable you to uncover the secrets of Tanzania’s renowned coffee industry, from bean to cup. Engage in hands-on activities as you join local farmers in the coffee harvesting process, coffee roasting and coffee tasting. As the day ends, say goodbye to our host and drive back to your hotel in Arusha. You will enjoy a tasting of freshly brewed coffee and gain insight into the importance of coffee in Tanzanian culture.

Day 4: Arusha – Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, depart Arusha for Tarangire National Park, famous for its large elephant herds along with ancient baobab trees. Explore the park on thrilling game drives, encountering a diverse array of wildlife, including lions, leopards, and wildebeests. Explore the scenic beauty of the Tarangire river and its resident hippos and crocodiles.

After a day of adventure, drive to Manyara Secret Lodge and relax at your lodge, nestled overlooking Lake Manyara.

From Arusha to Tarangire National Park is about 120 km (2–2.5 hrs), and from Tarangire to Lake Manyara National Park is about 70–80 km (1.5–2 hrs).

Day 5: Lake Manyara National Park

After breakfast, continue your safari adventure with a visit to Lake Manyara National Park, renowned for its stunning scenery and diverse wildlife. Take on game drives along the shores of the lake, spotting tree-climbing lions, elephants, and flocks of flamingos. Explore the park’s varied ecosystems, from dense forests to open grasslands, while retiring to your lodge overlooking the picturesque lake.

Day 6: Lake Manyara – Serengeti

After breakfast, with your packed picnic lunch, drive approximately 189 km (4 to 5 hours, depending on the traffic on the way) to the iconic Serengeti National Park. The expanse of the plains extends beyond the limit of the human eye. Spend the day exploring this legendary landscape on game drives, witnessing the incredible abundance of wildlife that calls the Serengeti home. Keep an eye out for the Big Five and witness the spectacle of the annual wildebeest migration (seasonal). As the sun sets, relax at your luxury tented camp and soak in the magic of the African wilderness.

From Lake Manyara National Park to Serengeti National Park is approximately 205–250 km, taking about 5–6 hours by road (via Ngorongoro route).

Day 7: Full Day Exploring the Serengeti

Dedicate a full day to exploring the wonders of the Serengeti. Set out on morning and afternoon game drives, venturing deep into the park in search of elusive predators and iconic herbivores. Marvel at the vast herds of wildebeests and zebras grazing on the plains. Perhaps you can spot a pride of lions lounging in the shade. In between game drives, relax at your camp and take in the breathtaking vistas of the Serengeti.

Day 8: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater

After breakfast, drive approximately 150 km from Serengeti and make your way to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, home to the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater. Descend into the crater’s unique ecosystem, where lush grasslands and permanent water sources support a diverse array of wildlife. Keep your camera ready as you encounter black rhinos, elephants, and lions during a memorable game drive within the crater. As the day ends, ascend to the crater rim,  take in the breathtaking panoramas before driving 24 km to Kitela Lodge in Karatu for dinner and overnight.

Driving from Serengeti National Park to Ngorongoro Crater is about 140–160 km (3–4 hours), and from Ngorongoro Crater to Karatu is about 20–25 km (30–40 minutes).

Day 9: Departure – Karatu to Kilimanjaro Airport

As your 9-day safari concludes, say goodbye to the hotel staff and transfer to Kilimanjaro Airport for your onward flight.
