Nothing beats the Tanzania beaches!

Waves, tropical sun, endless blue water aside, there is a wealth of culture you can’t find anywhere else. A beach vacation in Tanzania (whether you’re heading to Zanzibar, Pangani, Bagamoyo, or Mafia Island) promises sun, serenity, and unforgettable memories. But wait; what do you pack for a trip like that?

We have compiled a useful list for you; here are a few must haves for your Tanzanian beach escape.

1. Lightweight Clothing: Tanzania’s coastal areas are mostly sunny, warm, and sometimes humid. Light, breathable clothes like cotton dresses, loose shirts, shorts, and tank tops will be your best friends. Think comfort, but don’t shy away from a few bold prints; anything that brings the cultural, African vibes is welcome.

Pro tip: Pack something modest for when you’re visiting towns or cultural sites.

2. Swimwear & Cover-Ups: This one’s obvious; you’re heading to the beach after all. Pack your favorite swimsuits, and don’t forget a light cover-up or sarong for when you’re walking back from the shore or grabbing a bite at a beach café.

3. Flip-Flops or Sandals: You don’t want to drag sneakers across the sand. Go for open, comfortable footwear; something you can slip on and off easily. The beauty of this particular coastline is also in the range of activities you can indulge in. So if you’re planning to explore coral reefs or do any hiking, throw in a pair of sturdy sandals or  a pair of water shoes.

4. Sunscreen, Hat & Sunglasses: Tropical sun is quite serious, it doesn’t play around. For the love of your skin, you’ll need a quality sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and your coolest pair of sunglasses. This trio serves as a definite cool factor while at the same time keeping your eyes safe and making sure sunburn isn’t something to worry about.

5. Reusable Water Bottle: You can buy water in most of the beaches but for an environmentally conscious person like you, a reusable water bottle is a must. Stay hydrated, always. The heat can sneak up on you, especially when you’re having the time of your life.

Honorable mentions: Beach towel or mat, mosquito repellent, a bag or pouch for your other essentials.
